Fun interactive site about Egyptian mummies

An Egyptian mummy kept in the Vatican Museums.

Fascinating Egyptian Mummies–Unwrapping history with science

This fun and educational four-stage interactive site is based on an exhibition at the Musee de la Civilisation in Quebec City.  Visitors discover different facets of ancient Egyptian cultures.  You must complete three games to enter the last one (which I haven’t achieved yet).

  1. Mummification Process.  Put the mummification process in the right order.
  2. Canopic Jars.  Place the organs into the right canopic jars.
  3. The Weighing of the Heart.  Place the jar that contains a heart as light as the sacred feather on the other side of the scale.
  4. Sarcophagi Chamber.  Can’t say what this is becuase I havent completed the first three stages.

__________

Interesting information about #3

“Ancient Egyptians believed that the deceased had to meet a challenge in order to achieve immortality.  After the deceased declared having committed no faults in life, the heart was weighed.  If it balanced with the feather, this meant that the deceased had lived according to moral standards and could move on to the afterlife, a realm of bliss and delight.  But if the weight of the heart was different from that of the feather, this meant that the deceased had lived in sin and that the heart would be eaten by Ammit, the devourer.”

See your future face [computer face science]

When I look in the mirror and see the wrinkles and age spots starting to form, I wonder what I will look like in five or ten years.  Today I found out.  Yikes!

The Face Transformer will age your face make it look like a child again (wouldn’t we all like to do that).  Just follow the instructions.  At the end, click on the ‘transform’ list and watch what happens to your photo.  Try it for fun.

Note: It works better on Internet Explorer.

A hilarious social status generator!

I just found a HILARIOUS status generator for Facebook, Twitter, or any social network: Generatus.

How many hours have you wasted trying to think of something suitably witty, funny and original for your status on Facebook or Twitter?

You will be served up a brand new, sparkly status all ready to be copied and pasted into Facebook, Twitter or whichever social networking site you like best.

Some examples of sayings that the generator came up with:

  1. Monique is currently out of her mind but please feel free to leave a message.
  2. Monique is so stupid that she stole a free sample.
  3. Monique is going to look for herself.  If she gets back before she returns please keep her here.
  4. Monique used to have an open mind but her brains kept falling out.
  5. Monique isn’t worried about what people think.  They don’t do it very often.
  6. Monique is careful about reading health books…she may die of a misprint.
  7. Monique never travels without her diary.  One should always have something sensational to read.
  8. Monique agrees with that money talks; hers is always saying, “Goodbye.”
  9. Monique is having an out-of-money experience.
  10. Monique is back!  By popular demand.

Here’s a screenshot of one of my many favorites:

Just type in your name, click on the male or female, and generate a funny status!

Trivia Time 2: Names (This is fun!)

This image shows a cut kiwifruit.
Image via Wikipedia
  • There was once a fuzzy little fruit from New Zealand that nobody ever ate.  It was called the Chinese gooseberry.   It was so unpopular that someone decided to change the fruit’s name to kiwifruit.  Sales went through the roof even though the fruit still tasted the same.
  • Denmark has the strictest “name laws” of any country in the world.  The Danes restrict parents from giving children any name considered “unusual.”  This is to prevent children from getting teased about their names.  There are 4,000 approved girls names that parents can choose from.  The boys list only has 3,000.  Babies sometimes remain nameless for months while the parents try to persuade the government to allow a name not on the approved list.  The name Tessa is not allowed in Denmark because tessa means “to pee” in Danish.
  • The Romans thought that each letter of their alphabet had important values, so the letters in a child’s name were carefully selected because some of the letters were good and some were bad.  The letters were picked to be the initials for a name were doubly important because they could affect a child’s future personality.
  • About a thousand years ago, the king of Denmark was nicknamed Eric the Memorable.  Today, nobody remembers why.
  • Want to make your last name seem classier?  Add a “de” to the front of it, which in France shows that you have nobility in your family.

More goodies:

CHOOSING YOUR CELEBRITY NAME

Since celebrities change their names to make them sound better, here’s one way to figure out a name for youself.

  1. Take the name of the first pet you ever owned, or your parents, or your friend…
  2. Get the name of the first street you ever lived on.  If the street is a number like 157th Avenue, go with any street name you ever lived on.

Now you have your name.  My celebrity name is “Ringo Darling”!  LOL.

What is your celebrity name?

CHOOSING YOUR STAR WARS NICKNAME

Ever notice how all the characters in Star Wars have similar futuristic names?  Here’s how to get yours.

For your Star Wars first name:

  1. Take the first three letters of your last name.
  2. Add to that, the first two letters of your first name.

For your Star Wars last name:

  1. Take the first two letters of your mother’s maiden name.
  2. Add to that, the first three letters of the name of the city you were born in OR the street you live on now, whichever sounds better.

My Star Wars name: Bermo Tamel

Post your celebrity and/or Star Wars name!

Five cool websites – part 1

Just sharing some neat websites I came across today…

  1. Are you someone who likes to give advice regarding relationships?  Create a Side Taker account.
  2. Find out how many places your username is found at Usercheck.
  3. Here is a word checklist derived from reports used in autopsies.
  4. Watch time-elapsed videos of a variety of subjects at PlayingWithTime.  Click on “To See and Do” and then “Gallery” at the top of the page.  My favorite is watching a race through a network of nerve cells – carrying information to different parts of the body.
  5. Would you like to find out what kind of blogger author you are?  This site analyzes words, images, and shows what part of the brain was dominate during writing.  Here are my results according to Typealyzer:

ISTP – The Mechanics

The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generally prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts.

The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often l

ike seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters.

Analysis

This show what parts of the brain that were dominant during writing.
