Susan Boyle, 22, sings Barbara Streisand hit [video]

In 1984 a young Susan Boyle stepped on the stage in a local Scottish club and sang Streisand’s “The Way We Were.”

“I can remember that she was a shy young girl, but also very attractive back then – she turned a few heads when she came into the club,” school caretaker Gerry McGuinness, 61, told the Daily Record of her appearance, 10 years before she would take singing lessons.

SUSAN BOYLE MAY HIT THE BIG SCREEN

Susan Boyle told the judges her dream was to be a professional singer and that she hadn’t fulfilled that dream because she never had the chance.  Well, she’s not only getting her wish but she’s also been offered a movie deal called Section B!

section-b I love that quote!

Darla Rae, who runs Film-It Productions in Colorado, says “Susan Boyle’s real life story is exactly what the movie Section B is about – chasing your dream no matter what. And I understand her completely, because our stories are almost identical. I promised my ill mother who passed away that I wouldn’t give up my dream of making films. So at age 47 I wrote, directed, and produced my first feature film, The Goal. We went on to win awards, and now we’re getting ready to shoot Section B with some amazing talent…

Susan studied at Edinburgh Acting School in the early ’90s but was forced to leave and care for her sick mother. I’d love to help her finally fulfill her dream of being an actress! We’ve even sent offers through the local Pub manager where Susan Boyle sings Karaoke. Hopefully our offer will reach her and you’ll see her on the silver screen soon.” says Rae.”  Source

Listen to Darla Rae describe the idea that birthed the movie and the synopsis…

I am SO HAPPY for Susan!

WOW! Listen to Susan Boyle sing “Cry Me a River” [video]

What a voice!  Listen to this recording of “Cry Me a River” on a 1999 charity CD…

Gives me chills!  I’d love to hear this on a surround sound receiver.

Britain DOES have talent! Look at these acts [videos]

One of THE BEST dance groups I have seen yet!  Talk about synchronization!  Absolutely FLAWLESS.

This contestant is six years old and gets over 53 million YouTube views.  Maybe this is what Susan Boyle sounded like when she was six.

BONUS VIDEO…

Here’s one in memory of my mother.  She loved this song and would have cried tears of joy if she’d heard Connie sing this.  I remember singing this in various convents as a little girl.

Watch this amusing interview with Susan Boyle [video]

Watch this video interview with ABC News.  It reveals more about Susan’s personality and attitude about her life.  I love the message she gives to her deceased parents.

My thoughts after seeing the Susan Boyle video

Explanation: I am writing this hours after posting the rant below.  After rereading it, I was going to delete it but decided not to.  Actually, I’m amazed at what I had written.  I watched four/five minutes of awe-inspiring talent and ended up writing about bullying.  Seeing and hearing the word ‘bully’ anywhere stirs up intense emotions.  I guess the opinion below came after reading a little bit about Susan Boyle and Paul Potts background, which led me to think about Kelly Yeoman.

I wonder if this is a good lesson about posting things.  Write it; save a draft and then reread it later.   Anyway, I’ve mellowed out since then :)  Oh, my thoughts about Susan?  My heart swells with joy every time I watch the video.  I doubt her fame will tarnish her humble disposition.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

In my post, Kleenex Moment: The YouTube video that got over 9 million hits, I mention Paul Potts who had apparently been bullied in school:

In the interview that was broadcast before his performance in the semi-final, Potts said that he had been bullied in school, and that experience may have had an influence on his lack of self-confidence. He made a similar remark in 1999 — that his voice had always been a source of solace in the past when bullied. [Source]

I also found out that Susan Boyle had been bullied:

Learning difficulties as a child led to bullying at school, and Boyle promised her recently deceased mother she’d honor her memory by auditioning for the show.  [Source]

What a great attitude Susan has about those who bullied her >>> Look at this video interview.

After learning this, I immediately thought of Kelly Yeoman who was bullied to the point of suicide.  If those who had judged her “cover” would have left her to be who she was, could she have revealed such jaw-dropping talent that the world would have given her a standing ovation like Susan Boyle?  It may not have been a singing gift; maybe she would have written a novel or saved lives like Captain Sully or captured our hearts like Princess Diana.

Why do we (I include myself) continue to abort the dreams of so many hidden gems because of preconceived judgments and jealousies?  Why do we trash gifts because of the color or size of the wrapping?  It doesn’t just relate to judges but also to editors who trash manuscripts, to parents who discourage their children from pursuing their gifts–the list goes on.  We need to go on a “judgment” diet.  We need new eye examinations and  replace our “this is what success looks like” glasses.

To all the undiscovered “Susan Boyle”s: If you know you have something to offer the world, please, please, please do not let the laughter and judgment of others squelched your dream.  Keep going.  Somewhere someone will notice you.  But most of all…forgive us for not looking with better eyes.

Thanks for listening.

Kleenex moment: The YouTube video that got over 9 million hits [video]

Get your Kleenex out–no wait–get the whole box out!   I balled like a baby.   I know 9 million people saw this video but I didn’t, so I know someone else hasn’t seen it either.

This is Britains Got Talent.  When Susan Boyle comes out, you see the judges and the audience laugh and mock her assumed ability.  Until she opens her mouth.  Remember Simon Cowell attitude about Jennifer Hudson?  He chokes on this one.

Unemployed, 47 years old, never been kissed…What bewilders me is that she can’t understand why people are making a fuss and is still unsure she will win!!!  This is SO INSPIRING.

Apparently, another unknown sensation blew the judges away on March 17, 2007–Paul Potts, a manager in a mobile phone warehouse.

In several interviews, Potts revealed that he performed Aida despite doctors’ wishes to remove an adrenal tumor they had discovered during his illness from a burst appendix, and performed Manon Lescaut shortly after the surgery to remove it. Potts broke his collarbone and suffered whiplash in a bicycle accident in 2003, which prevented him from pursuing opera as a career. The mishap and financial difficulties that followed led him to enter Britain’s Got Talent despite not having sung for four years.   [Source]
